GAY PATTAYA
A two hour drive from Bangkok, Pattaya has Thailand's largest gay scene outside the capital. With many tourists and many young indigent Thais, there is a strong commercial element to the scene, but there are also opportunities to meet more independent locals.
There are three major gay centres. Top of he list comes Boyz Town in Pattayaland Soi 3.
Have a pleasant meal in Roma Restaurant, a drink in next door Panorama, the water show in Splash. Around midnight it's time for
Boyz Boyz Boyz, the go-go-bar-cum-nightclub-cum-show and ending the night at the Cafe Royal.
Fifteen minutes walk from Boyz Town are Sunee Plaza and Soi Day-Night, a warren of sois (narrow streets)

bars and open-air cafes. The area is very popular with an older crowd, but it is not to everyone's taste.
Gay go-go bars and massage parlours can be found all over Pattaya, but
the next biggest concentration is in Jomtien, the long beach fifteen minutes away by song teow - the
ubiquitous pick-up vans that serve as buses. The gay beach lies in front of the long-established gay guesthouse
Tui's Place is the place. Jomtien Complex, ten minutes walk from the beach, has plenty of gay
restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
GETTING THERE
If you don't have your own car, there are three common ways of getting to Pattaya from Bangkok. All options
take around three hours, depending on the traffic.
Public Bus: frequent services from Ekkamai Bus Station on Sukhumvit Road.
Cost: about 100 baht plus 30 - 60 baht to take a song teow to your final destination.

Taxi: Stop any taxi in the street, ask if they will go to Pattaya / Jomtien and negotiate
the price. Usually around 1,200 baht plus tollway fees (about 60 baht). The driver may say that the
price should be higher because he has to come all the way back to Bangkok. On the return journey, the
standard price is 800 baht - book at one of the many open air kiosks.
Car service: the most comfortable and convenient option. Pick you up at your hotel and take you to your destination. 1,200 - 2,500 baht
depending on the age and make of car and the time of day. Check whether tollway fee is included.
