GAY CHIANG MAI
Although much smaller than Bangkok, the northern capital has a thriving gay scene.
Most first-time visitors head for the Peak - a collection of open air bars surrounding the rock-climbing wall near the night bazaar. Four of the bars are gay; the most popular is
Friendship; the owner Nui is a good friend of
Kinnara.
Next door MTV bar is also worth a visit; say hi to Mos and Toi.
Not far from the Peak is another collection of gay bars. Equally friendly

but more downmarket and some of the young men may be in need of money.
For those who like eye-candy, the Circle and My Way bars - a five-minute tuk-tuk ride away - have go-go dancers who always welcome newcomers.
(For an outsider's perspective on this scene, read this article
from Irrawaddy magazine.)
There are no exclusively gay nightclubs in Chiang Mai.
Gay men can be found most nights in Bubble, under the Porn Ping Hotel. Spice is also popular. Many gay men go to Mandalay,
but foreigners pay a 300 baht entry charge.
The favourite sauna is House of Male. Sparoma gets fewer visitors, but it has a quiet location overlooking
the River Ping, a 20 metre
swimming pool and professional masseurs.
If massage is your scene, there are at least a dozen to choose from. Classic House is convenient for the hotels in the
Night Bazaar. One To Come is popular.

And don't
forget Kinnara
partner B-Beez.
Away from the scene, evening options include dinner and cultural performance at the Old Chiangmai Culture Centre,
dinner at The Gallery overlooking the River Ping.
SHOW TIME!
The newest show spot in town is Munro's, featuring twice-nightly performances by
British drag star Ruby Munro and a talented team of local dancers and singers offering an international blend of song and dance.
All are welcome, locals and visitors, family and friends. Come and dine or just come for a drink. Munro's is on Nimmanhaemin Road at the corner of Soi Eleven.

TEARS IN OUR EYES
We're fans of The Glass Onion, a quiet, comfortable
upmarket gay bar on Nimmanhaemin Road. It's not easy to find. There's a sign on the left half-way between Huay Kaew and Suthep Roads;
walk down a narrow path past Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill and a naked woman and you'll see the bar. If you get lost, call 053 218 479 (after 7pm).

Greet Kris, the owner, sink back into one of the comfortable chairs and order a cocktail. Drink it slowly and try not to stir for the next two or three hours.
